SIR FREDERICK SAMSON MEMORIAL RESERVE

Public BBQ

Stumbling upon Sir Frederick Samson Memorial Reserve feels rather like discovering a secret portal to the Australian bush, conveniently tucked into suburban Samson. This sprawling 80-hectare former WWII barracks has been transformed into something quite remarkable - a place where you can genuinely forget you're in Perth's suburbs. The reserve cleverly divides itself between manicured lawns where dogs bound about with unbridled enthusiasm and genuine bushland tracks that wind through native vegetation. It's refreshingly unpretentious: proper toilets, a decent playground, BBQ facilities, and exercise equipment scattered about without fanfare. The bush tracks are the real treasure here, offering that peculiarly Australian experience of being surrounded by scrubland while children's laughter drifts from the playground nearby. The birdlife is genuinely impressive, and the rehabilitation work has created something authentically wild within suburban boundaries.
